What is the Parent’s Role?
Parental support in the learning process is vital. Whether or not you know anything about music or art, take time to listen to your child play, provide exclusive practice time on a quality instrument, admire his or her work, and celebrate his or her continued artistic accomplishments.
Here are some other ways you can support your school’s music and arts teachers:
- Talk to your music and arts teachers. Find out from them how you can support what they are trying to accomplish for your school’s children.
- Praise your school’s music and arts programs publicly to your friends and acquaintances. At the same time mention what can be done to improve music and arts in your school
- Participate in parent support groups for music and the arts.
- Discuss the benefits of music and the arts with school board members, administrators and other teachers. Ask them how the school can better integrate music and the arts into the core curriculum.
- Attend concerts, recitals, exhibits for music and arts student groups.
- Support fundraisers for music and arts events
